Last weekend was literally the first weekend in 2 years that we:
a.) didn’t have to study
b.) didn’t have to work
c.) didn’t have visitors
d.) weren’t out of town
We felt like REAL LIVE ADULTS that had an open weekend and needed to decide what to do with it.
It was awesome.
So we decided to go camping, because that’s what some of our real live adult friends do when they have a free weekend.
Turns out we aren’t the best campers.
We packed all our camping gear into the trunk and started the hour and a half drive up to Mount Charleston.
We planned on stopping at an ATM to get cash for the campsite on the way.
But we forgot.
We also realized on the way that we had forgotten matches.
But none of that mattered, because every single campground on the mountain was full.
So we stopped at the first hike we found, hiked about 5 miles, and then went back home to order some sushi.
On the drive home we tried to think of a nice plan B for our free weekend.
We decided to do some home improvement, because that’s something else real grown-ups do on the weekends.
(at least in the Home Depot and Lowe’s commercials they do)
We stopped at Home Depot on our way home and spent about 3 hours cutting up some plywood to make shelves and boxes.
It was a lot of work.
(for the Home Depot employee)
Nate really wanted to finish the boxes on Friday night.
We worked all night.
Until I got really grumpy and completely stopped contributing to the project.
Then we went to bed.
The next morning we only had to make 2 more trips to Home Depot, and one to Target, where I found a much easier alternative to building shelves.
It’s called assembling shelves. It’s much cheaper, much easier, and makes me much less grumpy.
I assembled this puppy all by myself.
While Nate built a bunch of shelves and boxes.
Nate says mine is going to break next week, and HIS are going to last forever. He’s already planning on passing them down to our grandchildren. We will see.
Our food storage closet with the new shelves. I wish I had a before picture – this closet was a MESS.
Next up is our non-food storage closet.
Can’t wait for our next real live adult weekend!
(though it could very well be another 2 years)
