During our visit with the Pulmonologist, he told us Calvin’s breathing issues were probably being caused by one of two things, and gave us the possible reasons.
After the procedure, he came out and talked to us.
“Ok, there are 6 things going on in your son’s airway.”
So, Calvin’s SIX new diagnoses are:
5. Paralyzed Left Vocal Chord (WHAT?)
6. a nodule on his vocal chords
too many diagnoses… imma fall asleep now…
The 3 ‘malacias’ are from trauma from the multiple intubations, the paralyzed vocal chord is probably from when his shunt was placed, the epiglottitis is from all the medications mixed with GERD backing up and getting his epiglottis all stomach-acidy and the nodule, I can’t remember and don’t really care.
Basically, everything that could go wrong with an upper airway has, and Calvin has been overcoming so much each time he takes a breath.
We always knew he was amazing.
We switched up our steroids, got some ‘just-in-case’ nebulizing treatments (so no more trips to the ER!) and were on our way.
Now we just wait for his airway to heal, hopefully in the next several months.
