We really scored with Denver. There is an amazing, talented, super experienced team of physicians in a BRAND NEW tower of a PRETTY NEW hospital.
(Plus the Broncos are doing great this year, so everyone is extra happy.)
Seriously, the fetal surgical center is only a few months old. Old enough that they’ve ironed out the kinks, and still brand new. It’s perfect timing.
Dr. Zaretsky and Dr. Croblehome (red cap)
Dr. Zaretsky is our main MFM and we LOVE him. Dr. Cromblehome was our fetal surgeon, and also happens to be the Chief of Surgery over the whole hospital (Children’s AND the University (adult’s) hospital!). He was one of the pioneers of fetal surgery, and has been doing it since the beginning. Prior to our coming here someone wrote on the fetal surgery page “Don’t go to Denver, it’s too new. My advice is to find wherever Dr. Cromblehome is and go there.”
We found him!
Not really my Dr. – this is Calvin’s pediatric neurosurgeon
(who also happens to be the Chief of Neurosurgery over both hospitals.)
He fixed the defect on Calvin’s spine once Dr. Cromblehome got him out. He was so down-to-earth, especially for a neurosurgeon.
AND he came to see me every single day after the surgery, even though he really didn’t have any reason to. Every day he said, “Well, my patient is inside still, there’s nothing I can do, I just wanted to see how you’re doing.”
Amazing. He even came on Christmas. Turns out he’s Jewish, but still…
Dr. Behrent (bottom), Dr. Reeves, and Dr. Chow (left of Dr.s Handler and Cromblehome.)
(The 2 in the back were pediatric neurosurgeons that came by with Dr. Handler – I don’t know them)
(This picture was taken on Christmas Eve. We were shocked. The attention to detail here is incredible, and neither Nate nor I has ever experienced patient care ANYTHING like this)
Dr. Behrent is an MFM who is doing a 1 year fetal surgery fellowship with Dr. Cromblehome, and he is always hanging out on the fetal surgery floor. We see him a lot, and we really like him. One day we were talking about the new Mary Poppins movie and he and I were both saying similar things about the movie – we realized we had both gone home after watching it and looked at the same 3-4 websites for additional information. I don’t know many people who do that, so to me it was like finding a kindred spirit.
Dr. Chow is the head laborist on the floor, and is most likely the one who will be doing my c-section. Although Dr. Behrent said he will be there.
Dr Nivens (the woman)
(The Dr. in the white coat is Dr. Zaretsky, and the one in the vest is Dr. Behrent)
Dr. Nivens is Dr. Zaretsky’s wife, and a laborist on the floor. We really like her, and love hearing and comparing stories from the 2 of them about their weekends, travels, kids, etc.
Another picture of Dr. Behrent.
