Calvin has been a champ today. He is taking his feedings and tolerated his increase in food well today. He was able to come off the bilirubin lights today which has been so nice because we can hold him more. It also meant that we could put clothes on him, which was adorable.
Things have been crazy here. We have been pretty hands-on parents and it has been exhausting. Here is the bulk of our routine:
Every 2 hours Cami pumps, every 3 hours we feed Calvin with a bottle. Every 4 hours we do wound care on his back, every 6 hours we do a straight catheter to check for urine retention. Most of these things usually take 20-40 minutes each. Between all that he has a neonatologist and a team of docs that come see him twice a day, as well as the pediatric neurosurgeons that come twice a week, wound care nurses that come daily, weekly head ultrasounds, physical therapy that comes twice a week (plus they have us doing physical therapy as much as we can for him.) Today he had his pediatric urologists come 3 times (a resident, then a fellow and then the actual attending with the other two). Then the lactation consultants that check in milk lab techs tat take Cami’s milk to the human milk lab twice a day. Plus the charge nurse, his nurse and the unit coordinator that come in often to help out with things.
Anyway that’s what I can think of right at the moment. But it has been busy. Days fly by like never before.
More than anything we are just so happy he is doing so well. He is such an angel. (It helps that he is on the continuous feed still and is never too hungry. Although they are starting to decrease that each day now).
Here are some pictures…
This “NICU onesie” (NOT A DRESS) is preemie-sized and HUGE on him.
Calvin’s first bottle.
We love him so much.
