My dad is hurrying me out to the car, where my older brother is already waiting. I finish making my lunch (yes, even in first grade I had to make my own lunch), buckle my shoes (I didn’t learn to tie my shoes until the second grade….other than lunch-making, I wasn’t overly precocious as a child), and run out the front door of the house and into the back door of the car, pigtails flailing behind me.
My dad starts the car, and promptly flips to 89.1…AKA NPR. I listen to the soft voices talking about SUPER boring things, and beg my dad to let us listen to MUSIC on the way to school. He doesn’t. He never did.
This continued for years and years….
This morning dad borrowed my car. When he returned it, he left NPR playing on the radio station.
When I started the car later, I listened to NPR for a few seconds, then automatically flipped through all of my pre-set stations.
After hearing what the other stations had to offer, I returned to NPR to listen to their very interesting take on the political current events in Egypt.
How did I get to this point? When did the soft voices talking about SUPER boring things start to take precedence over Taylor Swift and Katie Perry?
?????? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN ????????
In other news, while my dad was here I went to a business dinner with him. One of the gentleman asked me ‘what are you up to?’ to which I replied, ‘oh mostly just school right now.’
The other gentlemen asked, ‘Are you in high school?’
(I should have replied, ‘Come’on man, I listen to NPR!’)
Anyway, I’ve started a ‘high school tally’. This makes twice this month. I’ll keep you updated!
Nate and I are chaperoning a youth dance soon – think I’ll get asked to dance?
